Background
An Introduction to New Hampshire’s Artists’ Colonies

Since the mid-nineteenth century, hundreds of artists of all disciplines have spent time nurturing their creative talents at New Hampshire’s artists’ colonies. These colonies have made their mark on the art world by providing artists with space and time to devote to their individual talents. The artistic, literary and musical influence of these artists has spread far beyond the Granite State. The natural beauty and serenity of New Hampshire, from the mountains to the seacoast, provide an inspirational setting for artists and their creative spirit.
